Don't let this happen to you!!! This image was taken yesterday, from one our our very own employee's. His "extra" vehicle has been parked in the yard for six months without being started or moved. When vehicles are neglected for long periods of times, those wonderful rodents that we all love (haha, yeah right) start to make homes and meals out of them. The damage that rats, mice, bunnies, and so on can do to a vehicle is costly! It doesn't take them long either. To them a long time could be one month! This is one of the many reasons why we here at The Dyno Shop recommend starting and driving non-daily driven vehicles at least once a month. Along with motorized vehicles, check your toy haulers and travel trailers too; they have generators, wires, insulation, etc. that rats and mice like to make homes out of. April 22nd is Earth Day, and we want to help make sure your vehicle is earth friendly all year long. Every car on the road needs this service between 80,000-100,000 miles Fuel Injector Cleaning There are many reasons to have a vehicles fuel injectors cleaned. The main circumstances include fuel contamination, having uneven cylinder fueling/spark plug wear, an unexplained cylinder misfire where you have spark, general maintenance 80k-100k miles, and for peace of mind at time of engine rebuild. Fuel injector cleaning methods and results vary dramatically whether you choose to perform an on-car cleaning method, or an off-car fuel injector service. First, let’s cover on-car cleaning methods, of which there are two. One method simply uses a pour-in additive to the fuel tank. The concentrated cleaner is mixed with fuel in the tank where it slowly makes its way through the fuel system, eventually passing through to the injectors. The other on-car method uses a pressurized canister of injector cleaner. The canister is connected directly to the fuel rail. During this process, the fuel pump is disabled and the engine actually runs off of the cleaner, not the fuel in the tank. The chemical passes through the injectors, cleaning them in the process. The engine usually operates for about 5-10 minutes on the cleaner. This process is more time consuming than the pour-in method and requires special equipment and training. There are many disadvantages to using the on-car cleaning method. The chemicals used are not very aggressive. The chemicals used have to be similar in nature to gasoline since the engine must run on the chemical alone. Because the cleaning is done on-the-car, the cleaner must not damage any of the other components on the vehicle that are sensitive to chemical contamination such as the oxygen sensor, catalytic converter, and others. Therefore, the cleaner used is a fairly mild detergent. Also, the technician really never knows what results the on-car cleaning accomplished. Without being able to perform spray pattern tests, flow-rate test, and leak-down tests, the technician “hopes” the on-car method will increase vehicle performance. For preventative maintenance, on-car cleaning usually won’t hurt. However, if an injector is restricted to the point that it is causing a driveability problem, don’t expect on-car cleaning to help. At this point, you’re most likely wasting time and money. Off-car cleaning is a completely different process than either method used for on-car cleaning. Once the injectors are removed from the vehicle they are cleaned ultrasonically. The injectors are cleaned internally and externally while being pulsed at varying pulse widths and frequencies (RPM). The ultrasonic waves create cavitation bubbles in the cleaning fluid. When the microscopic bubbles touch a surface, they implode, creating forces in excess of 10,000 psi. These implosions, combined with the correct cleaning chemistry and the all important “back-flush” are what guarantee a thoroughly cleaned fuel injector. Once the injectors are cleaned, their operation is verified using the injector flow bench. The flow bench can be used to examine the injector’s spray pattern, dynamic and static flow rate and to perform a leak test, none of which can be performed with the “on-car” method. Once the injectors are cleaned and fully tested, critical components are replaced to complete the service. This includes any o-rings, seals, filters and pintle caps. When we are done the injectors are as good as or better than rebuilt injectors that can be purchased at any auto parts store. Spring has sprung and we're ready to clean out all the clutter from the winter! As we sweep out the cobwebs in the attic., clean out the junk in the garage and do our bi-annual deep clean of the house, lets not forget the cobwebs & clutter in your mind & soul. Try these suggestions for some inner spring cleaning: Turn off the TV. Limit your TV watching to concentrate better on what’s going on around you. Read, spend time with friends, or just enjoy the quiet. Let go of anger. Complaining or venting anger to a sympathetic friend can sometimes make things worse. Don’t repress your emotions, but concentrate on constructive responses. De-stress. Find a time every day to back away from stress. For example, use the time when brushing your teeth at night to acknowledge anything negative experienced that day. Then focus on relaxation & peace. Check your attitude. We spend lots of time in the morning primping to look good for the day. But few of us take time to mentally prepare for the day. Ask yourself one question as you get ready to meet the world: What kind of employee, or parent, or friend, do I plan to be today? After you have worked on yourself, show your vehicle some attention too!! A lot of us are busy during the winter. Either staying inside due to the weather or busy with the holidays. Now is the time to get outside and go over your maintenance checklist for your beloved vehicle, the piece of machinery that you rely on EVERY DAY!!! Better yet, let us do it for you! With spring sports in full action for your kiddos and getting back to the grind at work, your time is valuable. We can take care of your vehicle while you take care of your obligations. The first step would be to get that 55-point inspection done. This is a thorough inspection of your vehicle checking fluid levels, tune-up parts, braking components, and under hood parts to ensure that everything is at peak condition. For the next 5 (business) days, were offering this service at a discount, ONLY $100!!! But hurry this offer ends 3/28/18. 619-562-3933 There are 3 storms expected to hit San Diego in the next week. Is your vehicle ready for the wet conditions??? We have a few suggestions for you to get your vehicle rain-ready. With rain storms few and far between, the roads build up oil and when the rain finally does start pouring down this oil build up makes the roads very slippery. To help ensure that your vehicle has good traction check the tire tread. You should inspect the condition and tread depth of your tires. The tread on your tires is used to "grip" and when the tire is bald it becomes more susceptible to slipping. If the tires are "bald" it's time for new ones! If you've got plenty of tread, your next step is to check the tire pressure. Even without the rain this should be checked on a monthly basis. An over-inflated tire will become like a balloon on the wet roads and an under-inflated tire doesn't use your tread "grip" to its fullest potential. Making sure your tires are always at proper inflation will extend their life span as well, saving your money!!! Now that we've covered the part of the vehicle keeping you on the road, let's discuss the driver. As the driver of the vehicle you need to be able to see. Especially in wet weather when the roads are in a more hazardous condition to you and those around you. Just because you did your homework and checked your tires doesn't mean the vehicle next to you did. Next on our list is to check the condition and functionality of the windshield wipers (both windshield and back window if you've got it). All the sun we get here in San Diego is great, except for how it deteriorates our wiper blades. The rubber on the blade should not be stiff, cracked or ripped. If your wiper blades have these conditions they will not be able to properly whisk the rain from your windshield leaving your visibility impaired. We always have these in stock, stop by on your way out and grab a pair! Headlights and tail/brake lights are needed to make sure the OTHER drivers see YOU! Even when we are not enduring rain storms, these parts of your vehicle should be routinely checked for proper operation. Visibility during rain storms is already impaired, lets make sure the other drivers can see you! One last tip, and I'm sure it goes without saying, keep an extra safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. The slippery road makes braking conditions a bit less reliable. We hope your find these tips useful or at least serve as a reminder! It's already the last day of February! We are only 3 months away from summer and those fun summer road-trip vacations. With the holidays behind us, it is the perfect time to start showing your RV some attention. Below you will find our recommendations to keeping your RV (or any vehicle that sits for long periods of time) properly lubricated and ready for use when you are. 1. Start and drive once a month. Fully warmed up and drive at least 30 miles. 2. Oil change every 3,000 miles or 3 months. Always perform an oil change before a trip. 3. Have the house batteries plugged in to keep charge. 4. Check water in batteries 5. Sunshades on tires, curtains drawn in windows 6. Check air pressure in tires 7. Keep at least 1/2 a tank of fuel to prevent rust 8. Check air bags once a month 9. Frequently check for rodents, inside and out. If rodents are found, an 8ft leash and a killer yard cat are suggested. 10. Start and run the generator on the monthly drive. We hope that these recommendations help you keep your RV in tip-top shape. If there is anything we here at The Dyno Shop can do for you, give us a call 619-562-3933 We repair all kinds
